It is a very sad day with the passing of Phil Everly. May he truly rest in peace.

Yes, very sad news indeed.

The Everly Brothers were a major influence to the Hollies and I remember reading somewhere that Allan Clarke and Graham Nash walked about 15 miles or so to see them in concert in the late 50s.

Sad news indeed. I was a fan of the Everlys in the days of Radio Luxembourg - older members of the forum will understand! I have been lucky enough to see them twice at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham. There was a brief comment from Graham on a local radio news bulletin this morning and I believe all Hollies fans know of the influence of the brothers' music on Graham and Allan. My favourite Everlys' song has always been "All I have to do is dream" and I do like the version of this song by Phil and Cliff Richard. On Cliff's "Time Machine" Tour DVD there is a great live version where Cliff duets with a singer called Peter Howarth!
My thoughts are with Phil's family and his fans throughout the world.

Sad news indeed

Without dear Phil and brother Don, The Hollies might have never happened.

Their harmonies formed the basis of The Hollies sound. As teenagers, we were huge fans.

Allan Clarke and Graham Nash, two of the original Hollies, modelled their vocal styles on the brothers.

In 1966 Hollies Clarke, Nash and Tony Hicks wrote two thirds of their album ’Two Yanks in England’

We backed Don and Phil on some of those tracks at Decca studios in London, along with then session guitarist, Jimmy Page.

So for Allan and Graham, from being two bedraggled kids waiting for the Ev’s autographs outside the Free Trade Hall in a rainy Manchester, England; the circle was completed, and we were hanging out in London with our heroes.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Bobby. While you had a professional collaboration with the Everlys, I'm sure that for you, Tony, Allan and Graham, Phil's death must be a personal loss as well.
I thought about the Hollies yesterday, and especially Allan's and Graham's account of their first meeting with the Everlys in Manchester all of those years ago.
I'm sure you are probably aware of it, but for those who aren't, there is a wonderful, 3-part interview with Graham and Allan on youtube entitled Hollies Panel, Part 1-Aero Theatre 9/22/11 (there are also Part-2 and Part-3, of course) where both of them discuss that first meeting and the subsequent collaboration and recording of "Two Yanks in England". It's a fabulous album that I most definitely prize having. In that interview, Allan says that the album should have been bigger than it was, and he's right!

Very sad with the passing of Phil.

Everly Brothers,Buddy Holly,Elvis was some of mine favourites in
the late 50´s and early 60`s.

I have a wonder, who else is playing on Two Yanks in England.besides
Graham,Allan,Tony and Jimmy Page.

Rest in Peace Phil.

Håkan.
