I caught this paragraph on the internet which had no link or further information at all. It didn't even give the man's name or even his instrument, It was an interview of someone who said he'd been invited to and nearly joined the Hollies back in 1975 but declined. It obviously wasn't Allan Clarke. I could only think of Pete Wingfield who supported them on tour through the 70's. I saw Pete at the Bottom Line shows in 1975. Was Pete asked to be a full member? Or is this someone else entirely? Or was this a bit of exaggeration on someone's part?

Thanks, but I don't think that's the answer. I knew about Gary Brooker but I thought he'd been asked in 1978 after Allan had left for L.A. a la Graham Nash. Also just the tone of the interview wasn't Gary Brooker, they weren't the questions you'd ask an established star. They were more like someone who'd been on the fringe of the industry and relating their missed opportunities or what might have been. The ' I could of been a big star if I chose' kind of thing.
Maybe it was Pete Arnesen. He did a lot of work with them. That would be my next guess. They would only need a keyboard player, maybe an extra vocalist. They wouldn't need a bass player or lead guitar or drummer.
