Thanks for the links.
I was there, together with my 19 year old daughter. We sat on the fourth row. It was her first Hollies’ concert, and although she wasn’t as thrilled as I was, she quite liked some of the songs, mostly the ones she’d heard before of course, and she said she enjoyed watching Tony play. I was especially happy to hear Very Last Day and Stewball again.
It was nice to talk to Carole and Ian, and Rob, and to say hello to James. Afterwards I also got the chance to thank Ian and Peter for the concert, and take some photos, and that was a thrill.
I must add that Edinburgh is a really beautiful town! So much to see, and the people are so friendly, and speak with such a nice accent! |

thnx so much for that link! interesting reading, to say the least. as i was not there, i can't speak to the validity of the writer's negative comments, but i got the impression she was expecting something more than she got... whatever that was.
every other review i have read makes a point to praise the Hollies on their interaction with the crowd, the audience participation, and the banter that the group members engage in on stage, so am i missing something? how disappointing could it possibly have been?
i have been to quite a few live band concerts in this country (sadly, never the Hollies), and can honestly say that very few of those i've ever witnessed comes close to the revelry Hollies' audiences seem to engage in! my humble opinion is based solely on reactions from Hollies fans, so maybe i'm off base here. those of you who have been to their shows would obviously have first hand experience.
i wonder what kind of concert this writer is comparing the Hollies' "static spectacle" to. . . jeez, how do audiences (say, in their 30's and 40's) usually behave at a show in edinburgh???? |

Sorry to hear that lady reviewer didn't enjoy herself, that certainly hasn't been my experience!! She was probably upset there was no body surfing in the audience
As for no interaction with the audience, I can think of something that was said before and after most songs (and during!)
So what if Peter didn't speak to the audience until after the third song!! crime of the century!!
Saying all that, she was quite complimentary about their performance, musically. |
