Brian Matthew, the DJ, played the Tremeloes "Silence Is Golden" this morning, and then mentioned that they used to do the song each night whilst on tour with The Hollies, and used to get standing ovations. The Hollies were going to record it for future issuing and were miffed when the Tremeloes issued it first. He then played After The Fox - the first time I have heard it on the radio. Does anyone know if The Hollies ever recorded Silence Is Golden?

No The Hollies never recorded 'Silence is Golden' - that was an old Four Seasons song from 1964 (it was originally their 'B' side of the chart topping 'Rag Doll' - also covered by the Tremeloes ) written by Bob Gaudio & Bob Crewe.
The Hollies & The Tremeloes both recorded 'I Take What I Want', while The Hollies used to perform 'Cool Jerk' & 'You Don't Know Like I Know' both recorded by The Tremeloes. |
