I saw Mikael Rickfors last Friday, performing at a rock club in Alingsås, not far from where I live. With him was a very good guitarist called Jonatan Stenson. (“The world’s greatest guitarist” Mikael called him, but we all know who that really is, don’t we?)
Mikael was great too, as usual, and performed about 20 songs, most of them in English but some of his Swedish hits as well.
A song I have never heard him sing live before, was “House On The Beach” that he wrote together with Keith Reid from Procul Harum. http://www.youtube.com/user/53Agneta?feature=mhee#p/u
Some other songs he sang was: Bus Stop, When A Man Loves A Woman, Away Again, I Want You, Tender Turns Tough, Vingar, Mitt Bästa För Dig and Där Gullvivan Blommar.
Everybody in the club stopped talking when he performed, and he got lots of applause and came back twice and did three encores!

Hi Agneta!
Sounds like it was a great concert! I love the song "House on the Beach"; it's one of my favorites of Mikael's songs. Nice photo as well. |

Great pic and footage of Mikael Agneta. He sounds as good as ever - Would love to see him at a live gig but methinks I will have to travel further afield ! |

Wow, thanks Agneta! I like the House on the Beach song also. If that's a new one I wonder if he wrote it while he was living in the States last year?
Nice picture too. You lucky girl. |

You're welcome Connie!
Mikael said that he wrote the song when Keith Reid visited him on Sweden's largest island Gotland, where he lived in the 90's when he played with Grymlings.
It was released on his album Happy Men Don't Kill (1997).
I found the lyrics here:
http://www.procolharum.com/kr_house-on-beach.htm
By the way, the only town on the island, Visby, is very old and surrounded by a stone wall. Mikael told us that Keith asked him why the wall was there, and that he answered that he assumed it was built to keep the peasants out. Only Keith misheard him, and later asked him if the pheasants on the island were particularly large and agressive! |

You're welcome, Connie and Sass E Frass.
For those of you who understand Swedish: Here Mikael performs the beautiful "Där gullvivan blommar" ('gullviva' is a yellow spring flower) from his time with the Grymlings, on Swedish Radio Gotland, and then talks about how he wrote the song together with Pugh Rogefeldt.

Last week Mikael Rickfors gave a really good concert on the Swedish island that Agneta mentioned above, Gotland. It was a kind of family gig with family andmany old friends at place. I think it was a special gig for Mikael as he lived on the island 15 years ago. His son Otis (about 4 years old) had announced that he was tired of listening to Mikael Rickfors. He prefered his dad. That´s the way kida are, I suppose.
Mikael was in rather good shape with a superb voice. A little more bluesy, but still very strong. It´s just Mikael and, according to him, the best guitarist in the world, Jonathan Stensson on stage.
A special memory was the extra tribute to his friend Percy Sledge, When a man loves a woman. What a performance!, it would have made made Percy happy.
He also gave us his acoustic version of Bus stop. As a comment to the applause he said "Now would be guys in Hollies have been glad!". I´m not sure that he´s aware that The Hollies will visit Swden for two concerts in about a months time. Sorry, but I didn´t get the opportunity to tell him. |

Great to hear about the concert, Bonus!
I'm looking forward to seeing Mikael in Trollhättan on the 19th, when he's coming by boat on the "Göta Kanal Rock" tour, together with seven other fine Swedish artists.
They come to Kungälv on the 20th.
Here is a link to a commercial for the tour:

And here I found the last part of Bus Stop, performed on the boat!

The outdoor concert on Friday was really great, although it was raining the whole evening. Mikael sang four songs, all in Swedish.
Earlier, in the afternoon, he was interviewed on local radio, on the boat, and there he sang “Moder Svea”, as a tribute to our beautiful country, he said. I was lucky enough to be there. I asked him if he knew the Hollies are coming to Stockholm, and he did, and said that he might go and see them.
Mikael is touring a lot this year and he’s got many projects. In another interview, he said that he wants to go to Kenya and record a cd with some Maasai friends of his. |

Sounds great Agneta! Suppose it was some kind of package then. On Gotland he sang at least 15-20 songs.
Hope Mikael will visit The Hollies concert in Stockholm. But why doesn´t the boys invite him? Is he that far away in their memories?
(It´s a pity but I´ll miss the Stockholm-concert myself, but will be at the gig in Malmö the next night) |
