Thanks to a nice fellow Hollies fan in Holland, I was made aware of the 2005 CD album Rickfors did with Grymlings MNWCD 399, where Pugh Rogerfeldt was replaced by Mats Ronander. I must say that I liked the first two albums better, but the 3rd release has some great moments. The CD was quite difficult to get hold of, but I finally got it from a supplier in Norway. The Swedish Megastore listed it, but they were sold out.
Favourite track: Moder Svea, Rickfors' salute to Sweden (another cold land up north, at least Norway and Sweden used to be cold, but now with global warming, they say that within a few years Scandinavia will be your new summer holiday destination), for all you non-Scandinavians, I've done my best to translate a major part of the lyrics. Maybe Agneta could help me with the last two verses and any correction to my attempt?
Mother Sweden
(Mikael Rickfors, Jonathan Stensson)
You dark, you cold
you snow covered land
that lies silently under ice
so far from Sangria and sun warm sand
somehow you are the best anyway
Because when the spring sun warms
every tree every stone
and we run bare feet across the fields
then there is no better
land on this earth
than the Swedish resting safely up north
We fight against midwinter's strong cold
it tests our patience to the limit
but the memory of the May pole is like a shield
against the ice crystals' attack giving us pain
But when the summer sun warms
every bay and every lake
and it smells of elderberry
and new mowed hay
then there are no more beautiful
countries on earth
than the Swedish resting safely up north |

Hi Knut!
I don't think I've heard this tribute to my beloved country before, but since you so kindly sent it to me, I've translated the last verses as best as I could. Here goes:
A melancholy song
so dark and so ugly
awakens when trees turn yellow and red
We sing it subdued in understanding
By the ringside winter awaits yet another round
But at long last the willow twigs are budding
Quite soon we forget all gloomy and dark
No, then there's no better country on earth
than our "Svea" lying on her back up north
The melody is clearly inspired by the Swedish national anthem "Du Gamla Du Fria"
( You Old You Free).
And by the way, we've had an exceptionally mild winter this year. Today I saw blue wood anemones (blåsippor, blåveis) in the wood, almost a month early!

Thanks Agneta, for a poetic translation of the last part of the song! |

I'm getting misty eyed for Scandanavia here. A fantastic part of the world, be it the wilds of Norway or the streets of Stockholm! |

It really is a nice little song!
And this winter we've had, and still have lots of snow and ice, even here in the south of Sweden. |
