Whenever I hear great songs and know that its performer is not the original artist, I like to seek out the source material.

These songs are fantastic. It's sad that few people have an opportunity to listen to this sort of thing today.
But as great as these two original tracks are, the Hollies' idea of linking them together into an extra-long (for that era) track was nothing short of brilliant.
If nothing else, this track should have shown the UK that the Hollies would be a force to be reckoned with. |

Thanks for the links SpartyScott, also great versions. I'm guessing that linking two songs together was unusual at that time ??
Something else I thought was unusual - those songs mean there's at least four songs on 'In The Hollies Style' LP (also It's in Her Kiss and I Thought of You) that were originally covered by female artists. However it seems other groups did that as well. I heard on the radio at the weekend someone requested original versions of three Searchers songs to be played, all by female artists! (I Ain't Gonna Kiss You No More / Don't Throw Your Love Away and Someday We're Gonna Love Again). So it must have been the thing to do! |
