Today marks the 30th anniversary of the passing of one of the greatest singers of the 20th century. Elvis Presley was an innovator and and wonderful entertainer, who brought pleasure to millions of people all over the world, of every background, race, and age, and has left an unforgettable mark on this world. If you're an Elvis fan, please take a few minutes today to remember the King in your own special way.

Elvis Aaron Presley
January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977

It's thirty years since you've been gone.
Though your song has ended, your melody still lingers on.
You influenced many to become rock 'n' rollers,
From the East Coast to the West, and the Atlantic over.
Your music lives on, and whenever a song is heard,
Memories of love, laughter, and life envelop every word.
Rest in peace, Elvis.
Long live the King.

They've shown many TV-Specials in Germany in the last days. I've watched quite a few of them. Interesting stuff!

It's really nice to see that Hollies fans like Elvis, too. I'm a big Elvis fan. He was my first idol. It started out when I was five years old. That was 22 years ago. I still love his music and his way of performing. He will always be in my heart. There is no need to mention that he will never be forgotten as a legend. 30 years have passed since his shocking death and even here in Germany he is present everywhere, on TV, on radio and in shops (and sometimes even on the street. Maybe even the real Elvis ? Wink )
Ever since then he musically shares my heart with many different artists but the top three will always be Elvis Presley, The Beatles and The Hollies. May their music live on forever. Very Happy

How about a little Elvis - Hollies quiz, folks? Please name as many songs as possible that were recorded by both Elvis and the Hollies? The number is quite low, by the way.

Elvis AND The Hollies recorded an excellent version of Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business" and "Memphis Tennessee".
Both loved Bob Dylan. Although Elvis never took part in the Flower Power movement of the mid- and late-60s he liked that music. He said on his 1968 TV-Special that he likes new music like The Byrds. I have a private recording from around 1966 when he sang "Blowin' In The Wind" with friends. The Hollies recorded their hit version two years later.
Officially he recorded Dylan's "Tomorrow Is A Long Time" in 1966 Dylan liked very much. A great song although it's not on The Hollies' Dylan album.
And Elvis and The Hollies both liked the rock'n'roll classics.

Oh, yes, and I've forgotten that I'm a big Elvis fan. His music introduced me to the wonderland of music. Directly afterwards came The Beatles and The Hollies. Cliff Richard is also on my favourites list who is a big Elvis fan, as well.

Happy Birthday, Elvis.
