I'm pretty new to the Hollies and i'm coming from the direction of Crosby, Stills and Nash and The Byrds.
I'm assuming that the hollies recordings i would be interested in would be the late 60's albums like Evolution and Butterfly with Graham Nash.
I'm going to pick up a compilation to get the hits but wondered which recording are their most psychedelic or mellow?
thanks in advance, cheers, kit |

Hi kermit!
Their most psychedelic albums are without a doubt Evolution and Butterfly. Evolution rocks more because Tony tries new sound effects on some of the song, he uses for example a fuzz guitar.
Butterfly is softer and they don't experiment so much like on Evolution.
They are both great albums as are a lot of other albums done by them.
Out of the sixties albums For Certain Because is another great one!
Out of the songs that aren't on albums King Midas in Reverse is the most psychedelic. |

hmm, i've had a look around on the net and all the three albums you suggest seem to be pretty much out of stock everywhere. I'll keep looking.
Just wondered what other stuff people listen to on here?
Just as a recommendation, the new albums by both Alfie and The Stands are well worth getting if you like harmony vocals and a sixties sound. They are also both playing at the Isle of Wight festival this year too. |

On www.amazon.co.uk the three Hollies albums are available. Each one costs 7,99 pounds.
Great new bands are for example The Coral, The Vines or The Darkness.
And the best release of the last 24 years, came out in Great Britain some months ago: Chris norman - Handmade!!!
It's a perfect album, if you like good handmade music, no synthezisers or drum computers, only live instruments and one of the very best voices in rock history ever, then buy it!!!
You can hear pieces of the songs on http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000UM0YO/qid=1084547552/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_10_1/302-9724878-3435228
if you are interested.
It's worth discovering it! |
