Great news, shows how much the Germans love the Hollies, Fantastic to see they are now getting the odd gig on the Telly.
Looking forward to a report on the show,

Have just watched the performance. Quite impressing to see The Hollies on a big live tv show on a Saturday. Surely a couple of millions of viewers - so there is a good chance that the Hollies have garnered new fans.

In comparison with the previous appearence on "Die Hitgiganten" it was a pity that the boys haven´t been interviewed like a couple of months ago.

The songs have been the same: The Air + Weakness. A clearly well-received performance. My personal opinion is that "Weakness" came across more authentically, because "Air" is so dramatically Allan´s own. (No offence to Peter or, actually all the others who have sang the song), and with "Weakness" Peter proved that he is a great singer in his own right.

Even though Frank Elstner, the show host, introduced them as the chart breakers of the 60s and 70s, The Hollies have shown that they are a part of today´s music, too, and anyone who imagines them as elderly gentlemen will certainly be surprised.

BTW: Can anyone tell what Tony Hicks does to appear so youthful??? I have only turned 30 but my hair is getting gray and thin... I can only admire him!

Thanks for the review Michealstoker.

Yes I agree Tony looks great for his 63 years young age-I think it's to do with being a veggie, playing squash, not smiling enough ( his words ) good head of hair and YOGHURT good for the interior and exterior. Carrie Anne Wink

What an amazing feeling to see the Hollies on a Saturday night show like "Verstehen Sie Spaß". A pity that the team behind the camera obviously didn't know the band good enough. 'Cause there were just a few glimps of Tony and not even much more of Bobby to see. "The air that I breathe" is a bit of disappointment if you think of Alan's voice. "Weakness" is a good choice , it sounds fresh and in a more contemporary style. Now what I'm asking myself, was it half playback (just the voices live) or was it total playback? I suppose it was the last. In contrast, the young violinist at the beginning of the show obviously seemed to play live. So all in all it was just two famous and 4 less famous elderly musicians miming.....?
Nevertheless I'm glad they appeared.

I was so happy to see my favourite band live on German TV. And actually, I liked this appearance more than their appearnce on "HitGiganten" because the camera was focused on the band, not so much on the audience, and it was nice to see Tony, Peter and Steve around one microphone singing harmony on "Weakness". Tony smiled a lot. They seemed to enjoy this appearance much more than the one a few weeks ago. I think "The Air" was played live and "Weakness" full playback.

I was just a little bit surprised that Frank Elstner announced that they would play an old and a new song. "Staying Power" is no more a brand new album. Wouldn't it have had more sense to play a track from their upcoming album to promote it in Germany ? With "The Air" the people would have been reminded of who The Hollies are and with a great new track people would have become interested in buying the new album as soon as it will come out.

But all in all it was a great appearance, and a Saturday night highlight.

Thanks for the reviews.

I am trying to patiently deal with a H8er on
a message board that I love in the U.S.
All because I started a thread on a US message
board(Mark Lindsay)about The Hollies album of
new material about to come out. (Peter's second btw)
and the fact that I was excited for my fave band etc.

anyway, I got my head slightly chopped off
by one poster who can't see past Allan's immeasurable
contributions to even objectively consider what Peter (or
Mikael) brings to the current recording/touring line up.

So thanks for the reviews which keep everything
in perspective, while certain people can only dwell
in the past, and The Hollies stature as it applies
to the US of A Rolling Eyes I appreciate greatly the dose
of international reality. The Hollies are Then, Now, Always !!! Cool

I wonder if someone recorded these TV show spots and will post them
on that one site with all the videos ? Or send me a dvd copy.
It'd be nice. Me being so far away and all.

Thanks for posting, Carrie Anne!

A brilliant performance. Cannot wait to see the guys on tour soon.

Many thanks Carrie Anne!! To my surprise I must admit that I prefer Weakness, it´s performed in a strong and emotional way.
