G'day All
I know I did a list of 60's favourites and I thought to myself, "what the heck I might as well do a list of my 70's favourites as well"
So again, in no particular order here is my top 10 favourite 70's bands/singers
The Hollies (my No.1 choice)
The Mixtures (Aussie Band)
Ronnie Burns (Aussie singer)
Johnny O'Keefe (Aussie Singer)
Master Apprentices (Aussie Band)
Sherbet (Aussie Band)
Smokie
Sweet
Racey
Abba
There you have it. Like the 60's, the 70's was a great era with great music. It would be nice to see who you liked in the 70's.
I forgot to mention that I have seen all of these bands/singers live. Abba were so popular that when they came to Australia they did their Sydney concert at The Sydney Show Ground (1977).
All The Best
Susie

I was only born in 1978, not like all you oldies but I love '70's music. My top 10 favourite artists of that decade would include (in no particular oder!):
1. Hollies - of course!
2. Pink Floyd - lyrical and musical genius
3. Manfred Mann's Earth Band - umpteen different members, still great music throughout.
4. Lindisfarne - Alan Hull - legend!
5. Slade - deserve much more recognition than they have received.
6. Uriah Heep - fantastic melodic rock.
7. Deep Purple/Rainbow - with Blackmore (or Tommy Bolin) - brilliant guitarwork
8. Rush - fantastic lyrics, fantastic drummer and bass player.
9. Fleetwood Mac - great even before Buckingham and Nicks.
10. Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - great songwriter, liked the first band!
Hell, can I have Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Procol Harum, Kinks, Camel, ELP, Who, Argent, Eagles, James Gang too!!!!! |

The bloke Paton (bass/vocs) was with Camel for a couple of albums - pretty good stuff. |

Aye Gordon. A few good bands came from Scotland. Probably more in yours and James's eyes. Never really got into the boy band of the period 'The Bay City Rollers.
Yes Anthony, I got to see quite a few Countdown shows (Australian equivalent of Top of The Pops). I lived next door to the Producers Assistant. |

G'day Kathy
You brought back a lot of memories, although they aren't on my list of top bands, I also liked The Partridge Family (watching that show was a religion to me), Pilot, Jigsaw and John Paul Young (I had a big crush on him).
Like you Kathy, I was a fan of Countdown as well as Sound Unlimited (later to be called Sounds) which was hosted by Graham Webb and then Donnie Sutherland.
All The Best
Susie

I also have fond memories of Countdown, Joan Jett, Blondie, Pussyfoot,
Cheeter and Chrissie Amplett, yes I remember the show well. |
